Washington Sundar registers five-wicket haul on his County Debut for Lancashire

Indian talent is shining exquisitely on the English soil as frontline batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and Washington Sundar have performed brilliantly for their county clubs. Sundar recorded his maiden five-wicket haul whereas Pujara smashed his fifth ton of the season for Sussex.

Washington Sundar bowled stupendously for Lancashire against Northamptonshire at Northampton ground during their ongoing County Championship division one game. Sundar registered a figure of 5/89 and overpowered the opposition with his innovative bowling skills.

Sundar was in riveting touch throughout the start as he scalped his first wicket on the second ball of his first over. Since then, there was no looking back for the southpaw as he kept on chipping wickets at regular intervals.

Sundar’s first wicket was Will Young who got out on 2. He then got hold of the middle-order and chipped in some important wickets of Ryan Rickelton (22), Rob Keogh (54), Tom Taylor (1), and Lewis McManus (61). Sundar played a leading role in breaking a 77-run partnership between Keogh and McManus.

Washington Sundar likely to feature in Royal London One-Day Cup

Sundar had signed the County deal with Lancashire recently in June and assured the club of his participation. Washington reached Old Trafford, the home field of Lancashire on Monday. On the basis of Sundar’s spectacular performances, he will surely be picked for the upcoming Royal London One-Day Cup for which he has made himself available.

The young Indian off-spinner has a bright future for India. He has already represented the national side across all three formats. Sundar played an anchoring role in India’s 2-1 victory against Australia at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020-21.

Sundar was last selected in the Indian squad for the home series against West Indies before the IPL 2022. However, his injury forced him to stay out of contention and he could only make a comeback at the IPL 2022.

The veteran all-rounder has played over 50 IPL T20 matches and is currently a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. During the recently concluded IPL 2022, Sundar again sustained a couple of injuries and could play only in nine matches where he picked up six wickets & amassed 101 runs.

Coming to Sundar’s county game, Lancashire is currently struggling in their game against Northamptonshire. The hosts took a 125-run lead in the second innings and are 25-1 at the Stumps on Day 2. Lancashire was bundled out for a mere total of 132 runs in the first innings where Sundar managed to score only a couple of runs.
