Sydney Thunder’s team has appointed Trevor Bayliss as their team’s head coach for the next three Big Bash League seasons.
Trevor Bayliss enjoys a successful career span during which he has coached the England team & guided them towards their Maiden World Cup win. He has also guided IPL’s franchise KKR to two IPL titles & was a crucial part of BBL’s Sydney Sixers glorious victory in the inaugural season of BBL. Bayliss has replaced former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond who stepped down from the position of Head Coach of Sydney Thunders in April due to family reasons.
“It’s great to be home & involved in New South Wales Cricket. The Sydney Thunder franchise has done well over the last few years. Hopefully, we can go one or two steps further this summer. To win as many matches as possible & compete in the final is my number one goal”, said Trevor Bayliss in a statement.
“Hopefully we can bring in few crowds back into the stadiums making plenty of noise. My experience over the years is that these players are at their best form when there is a good atmosphere around the match so hopefully, we can put a good match for the fans”, he added.
Cricket New South Wales head of Men’s cricket, Michael Klinger said that Bayliss is the perfect match for the role of Sydney Thunder Coach. “His experience as both an international & franchise T20 Coach around the world is a great asset for Sydney Thunder club & will surely be a fantastic resource for both the playing team & coaching team”, said Klinger.
“Trevor Bayliss will continue to upgrade the squad which will include appointing a new Captain & with the addition of quality overseas players”, he added. The current champions of the Big Bash League are the Sydney Sixers who have defeated Perth Scorchers by 27 runs in the finals of BBL on 6th February 2021 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
