Jamaica Tallawahs swash-buckling batsmen Andre Russell smashed half-century in the third match of the CPL 2021 against St Lucia Kings at Warner Park, Basseterre in St Kitts. By scoring a half-century in 14 balls, Andre Russell registers the fastest fifty in the history of the CPL.
Earlier, South African batsman JP Duminy held the record for scoring the fastest fifty in the CPL by scoring a half-century in 15 balls in CPL 2019. Evin Lewis (17 balls), Sohail Tanvir (18 balls), and Kieron Pollard (18 balls) are the others on the list of the top five batsmen scoring the fastest fifty in the CPL tournament.

Saint Lucia Kings Captain Faf Du Plessis won the toss & opted to bowl first. Jamaica Tallawah’s openers Walton 47 in 29 balls & kennar Lewis 48 in 21 balls helped Jamaica Tallawah’s to give an impressive start to their innings.
Middle-order batsmen Haider Ali (45) and Rovman Powell (38) scored some crucial runs to help Tallawahs build their innings on a good platform set by the openers.
The Jamaica Tallawahs were heading strong by scoring 199/2 in just 17 overs. At this point, Saint Lucia Kings pacer Obed McCoythey scalped three wickets in four deliveries & reduced the Tallawahs to 201/5.
Andre Russell scored 50 in 14 balls along with Migael Pretorious 2 runs to score mammoth runs in the last two overs. Due to Russell’s onslaught with the bat, 32 runs were scored in the 19th over & more than 22 runs were scored in 20th over.
Andre Russell helped the Jamaica Tallawahs reach the second-highest total in the history of CPL, 255/5. The highest total in the CPL is 267/2 which was scored by the Trinbago Knight Riders against the Tallawahs in 2019.
When the Kings started their innings their wickets fell regularly. The Kings lost Cronwall & Faf Du Plessis in the first over & by the end of the Powerplay St Lucia Kings were reeling at 66/6 with all the chances of victory being ended. Jamaica Tallawahs Migael Pretorious starred with the ball by returning with figures of 4/32.
The only batsman of the Kings who could make a difference with the bat was Tim David who scored 56 runs from 28 balls. However, due to lack of support from the batsmen on the other end David couldn’t guide the St Lucia Kings towards victory & their innings was succumbed at 135 runs.
