Just a day after IPL’s franchise RCB signed Sri Lankan Cricketers Wanindu Hasaranga & Dushmanta Chameera for the remainder of the IPL 2021. It is now being reported that the two players are yet to receive formal approval to participate in the second phase of the IPL 2021 from the Sri Lanka Cricket Broad.
RCB on Saturday took to social media to announce the signing of Hasaranga and Chameera as the replacement for Australia’s Adam Zampa & Daniel Sams. These two Sri Lankan players who displayed outstanding performances in the limited-overs series against India were unsold in the auction of the 14th edition of the IPL.
Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva revealed that the two players haven’t taken any permission from Sri Lanka Cricket Board to participate in the IPL 2021. He also added that SLC is not aware of the signings of the two Sri Lankan players by the RCB franchise.
“I don’t know, I have to check. We are under lockdown till the end of the month,” de Silva said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“We have not taken any decision yet as they will have to apply for the NOCs. We are not aware of these players being selected, neither have they sought permission from us,” he added.
Hasaranga & Chameera are among the 18 National Players who signed Central Contracts with SLC for the rest of the year 2021.
IPL 2021 Phase 2 will kickstart in the UAE on September 19 with a superhit opening clash between CSK & MI. RCB will play their first match of the second phase of the IPL 2021 on September 20. They will play their first clash against KKR in Abu Dhabi.
RCB enjoyed a stunning first half in the IPL 2021 by registering five victories out of seven matches they have played. They are currently placed in the third spot on the Points Table & are behind second-placed CSK. If Hasaranga & Chammera didn’t receive formal approval to play in the second phase of the IPL 2021, then it will be a major setback for the in-form RCB squad.
