Liam Livingstone’s participation in the second leg of the IPL 2021 is doubtful! Read to know why?

Liam Livingstone suffers a shoulder injury, participation in the second leg of the IPL 2021 is doubtful

What comes as a shocker for the Rajasthan Royals franchise is the news of Liam Livingstone suffering a shoulder injury. England’s batsman Liam Livingstone suffered a shoulder injury while playing a county championship match on Monday. Livingstone injured his shoulder while doing fielding for Lancashire in a County Championship fixture against Warwickshire. During Lancashire’s match against Warwickshire, Livingstone ran to save a boundary but ended up hurting his shoulder as he dived. The injury to Livingstone has put his participation in the second leg of the IPL 2021 under doubt.

Rajasthan Royals are already struggling with the absence of their star player Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer & wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler. The injury & chances of unavailability of Liam Livingstone add up complexities for the franchise ahead of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.

Liam Livingstone is in his best form for the past few months & suffering an injury at the peak of his career is a major setback for the stellar batsman. He turned heads with his swashbuckling batting against Pakistan in the recently concluded England vs. Pakistan T20I series.

In England vs Pakistan T20I series, Livingstone hit 147 runs at an average of 49 & a strike rate of 216.18 it included a stunning 43 ball 103 run knock at Trent Bridge. Livingstone’s knock was the fastest ever ton scored by an England batter in T20I cricket. His sensational form was evident in the recently ended the Hundred tournament where he was named as the “Most Valuable Player” in the inaugural due to his heroics with the bat & ball.

He smashed 348 runs in nine innings with an average of 58 and a strike rate of 178.46 including 27 sixes. Due to his commendable form, he was recommended by former Australian spinner turned commentator Shane Warne for a Test call-up in ongoing India vs England test series. However, Livingstone didn’t receive the call-up, as ECB included Sam Billings in the squad for the Oval Test. As far as IPL is concerned, Livingstone has played four matches for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019. He scored 71 runs at an average of 23.66 at a strike rate of 147.91.

If Liam Livingstone missed the second leg of the IPL 2021 then it will be a major setback for RR as the right-hander batsman could have been a perfect replacement for Jos Buttler at the top order. Looking at his current form & his capability of facing tough bowls, he would have been an ideal person to open innings for RR at the top of the order. There has been no update from Lancashire County Club regarding the status of Livingstone’s injury. Rajasthan Royals will hope that injury doesn’t prevent the remarkable batsman from participating in the IPL 2021.
