LPL 2021: Opening batsman Philip Salt hit a staggering 34 ball 62 runs to help Dambulla Giants beat Colombo Stars by 18 runs in the LPL 2021 at the R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday. Earlier Dambulla Giants posted a challenging total of 195 runs for 6 off their 20 overs. In response, Colombo Stars scored just 177 runs off 18.5 overs & suffered an 18 runs defeat at the hands of the gutsy Dambulla Giants.
Dambulla Giants Najibullah Zadran enlighten the stadium with an innings of 54 runs from 40 balls embellished with six boundaries & two maximums. Zadran further added 31 runs with Philip Salt before stitching a 77 run stand for the fifth wicket with captain Dasun Shanaka who played a brisk 25 ball 38 runs embellished with two sixes & three boundaries. Dushmantha Chameera starred for Colombo Stars by returning with figures of 3 for 34.
The Colombo Stars began their run chase positively by reaching 71 for 3 off 8.4 overs but soon they suffered a downfall as they lost two wickets in quick succession which left them struggling at 78 for 5 in 10.4 overs. The Colombo Stars kept losing wickets at regular intervals & were bowled out for 177 in 18.5 overs.
Nuwan Pradeep starred with the ball for Dambulla Giants with figures of 3 for 50. Tharindu Ratnayake, Imran Tahir & Chamika Karunaratne scalped two wickets each in the match.
