Riding on the back of blistering half-centuries by Sohaib Maqsood & Rilee Rossouw along with a three-wicket haul by Imran Tahir powered Multan Sultans to win the glorious PSL 6 title by outclassing Peshawar Zalmi on the grounds of Abu Dhabi.
After being sent to bat, the Sultan Multans openers Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood laid the foundation of a series-clinching win by registering 68 runs standoff 52 balls. Masood took seven balls to get off the mark, smashed Sameen Gul’s delivery for three boundaries in the fifth over. However, Mohammad Imran removed Sham Masood in the 9th over to break their blooming partnership. On the very next over removed Mohammad Rizwan from the crease. But these consecutive dismissals didn’t affect Sultans scoring intent as Maqsood & Rossouw headed strong & proved to be more threatening in the clash. Maqsood smashed Wahab Riaz for 17 runs in the 14th over while Rossouw scored 20 runs off Amad Butt’s over.
Sameen Gul provided Zalmi’s with a late breakthrough by removing Rossouw & broke Maqsood & Rossouw’s spectacular 98 runs stand. Johnson Charles was trapped for an LBW for a first-ball duck & put Sameen on the road of a hat-trick. He missed the feat but conceded only five runs off the second last over of the innings. However, 21 runs scored off the last over helped the Multan Sultans to finish on a mammoth 206/4 total.
Multan Sultans restricts Peshawar Zalmi to 159/9 to become the Champions of the PSL 6
Unlike Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi got off to a good start. Kamran Akmal hit Imran Khan for a boundary & six on successive deliveries right in the second over to make their chase narrow. In fact, most of the runs that were scored in the first five overs came from Akmal & Zazai’s bat who had played three balls & tried to get off the mark with a six but was removed off the very next delivery by Blessing Muzarabani.
Shoaib Malik & Rovman Powell revived Peshawar Zali’s chase by hitting a couple of boundaries scoring 55 runs from 12 to 14 over. Once the duo departed within the space of six deliveries, Sherfane Rutherford tried to bring Zalmi’s back on track by hitting consecutive sixes. However Sultan’s star bowler Imran Tahir’s triple strike in the 17th over proved lethal for Peshawar Zalmi’s chase. Rutherford’s dismissal was followed by the removal of Wahab & Imran for first-ball ducks by Tahir. Sameen Gul & Mohammad Irfan tried to play the remaining overs just for a formality, as they were aware that their efforts would go in vain. Finally, Multan Sultans restricted Peshawar Zalmi’s for 159 runs & sealed glorious victory in the final of the PSL 6.
By restricting Peshawar Zalmi’s in chase of 206 runs, Multan Sultans become the Champions of PSL 6 by sealing a thumping win over Peshawar Zalmi.
