Colin Munro & Iftikhar Ahmed’s firing 150 runs partnership helped Islamabad United to rise on top of the PSL 6 points table by defeating Karachi Kings in the 22nd match of the PSL 6 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Chasing a Mammoth total of 191 runs, Islamabad got off to a poor start as they lost the openers Usman Khwaja & Mohammed Akhlaq in the powerplay itself, with just 41 runs on the scoreboard. Then came Iftikhar Ahmed on the crease to steady United’s submerging ship. Iftikhar along with Munro played splendid 360-degree shots around the stadium to keep United alive in the huge chase. The two leading batsmen of Islamabad United were saved from getting bowled two times each, which proved to be a major advantage for the duos in the run chase.

Munro brought up his fifth PSL half-century in just 39 balls, he remained unbeaten on blistering 88 runs off 56 balls in an innings studded with 12 boundaries & two maximums. His batting partner Iftikhar batted brilliantly & brought up 39 balls 71 runs in an innings decorated with five boundaries & five maximums.
Earlier sent in to bat first, blistering half-centuries by Babar Azam & Najibullah powered Karachi kings to a huge 190 runs total. The opening stand of Sharjeel Khan & Babar Azam brought up 37 runs for the first wicket. Sharjeel was dismissed by Akif Javed for 25 runs in the fifth over. However, Babar didn’t let the Karachi Kings succumb to Islamabad United’s bowling attack as he kept scoring runs & took kings to 56 runs at the end of the powerplay.
Najibullah came on the crease to partner with Babar Azam & the duo gave the finishing touch to the Karachi Kings innings by adding a valuable 117 runs for 69 deliveries for the third wicket partnership. Babar Azam who started his PSL career for Islamabad United in the year 2016, registered his 19th fifty of the PSL tournament. He did fireworks in yesterday’s clash by hitting huge shots around the stadium & proudly registered 81 runs off 54 balls. Babar’s enthralling innings comprised of seven boundaries & three maximums. Azam’s batting partner Najibullah brought up an unbeaten 42 balls 71 runs in an innings furnished with five fours & four sixes.
After registering this gutsy win in a clash which was not less than a roller-coaster ride for PSL fans, Islamabad United rose up on the Points Table & is currently leading the table with 12 points from eight matches. While the title defenders, Karachi kings are lying in fourth place on the Points table by accumulating six points from seven matches.
