Shakib, Faulkner & Bavuma registers for Lanka Premier League 2021

Former Bangladesh captain Shakib-Al-Hasan, Australian all-rounders Ben Cutting, James Faulkner & South Africa Captain Temba Bavuma have registered themselves for the second edition of the LPL.

Players like Mitchell McClenaghan, Nicholas Pooran, Mohammed Mahmadullah, Sherfane Rutherford, Ravi Rampaul, David Wiese & Calum Ferguson are other players who have registered for the second edition of the LPL ahead of the Players draft. India’s former batsmen Yusuf Pathan, brother of Kandy Tuskers all-rounder Irfan Pathan is also available for selection. Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe, Sandeep Lamicchane from Nepal & Ali Khan of the USA have also made themselves available for the LPL 2021.

SLC Vice President Ravin Wickremaratne said, “last year’s success has certainly made a difference with more players from many cricket playing countries looking forward to playing in the LPL, which is a very good sign for the league & Sri Lanka cricket”. Anil Mohan CEO of Innovative Production Group FZE, the Official right holders of Lanka Premier league for 2020-2024 said, “it is an exciting list & I am sure fans can look forward to some scintillating performances from them in this edition of LPL too”.

Last month SLC confirmed that the second edition of the LPL will start on July 30 & the final will be played on August 22. The first edition of the LPL was held under a secure bio-bubble environment. Jaffna Stallions won the LPL 2020 as the team defeated Galle Gladiators in the final on December 16, 2020. Danushka Dunathilaka of Galle Gladiators scored the highest runs in the tournament with 476 runs from 10 matches, while Jaffna Stallions Wanindu Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker for LPL 2020.

Meanwhile, the Indian team is slated to play three ODIs & three T20Is against Sri Lanka starting on July 13. Shikhar Dhawan will lead India’s white-ball team while Bhuvneshwar has been named as his vice-captain for the tour. The Indian limited-overs team will be coached under the guidance of Rahul Dravid. On Thursday the Indian team has completed their mandatory quarantine period & started their training sessions on Friday under Coach Rahul Dravid.
