Sudden Scheduling of Kashmir Premier League put Lanka Premier League under doubt!

Kashmir Premier League put Lankan premier League under clouds

The sudden scheduling of the Kashmir Premier League has put Sri Lanka Cricket in a dilemma. The SLC board is thinking about whether they should go ahead with the second season of the Lanka Premier League without the presence of some of the top Pakistan Cricketers earlier were going to feature in the Lanka Premier League.

Speaking to ANI, the SLC Vice President Ravin Wickramaratne said that the sudden scheduling of KPL has now forced the SLC to meet & decide whether to go ahead with the LPL 2 even in the absence of Pakistan Cricketers.

“We haven’t decided anything as of yet, we will be deciding today. You will have to wait patiently. It is not the PCB I think, it is the Paksitan Government who have decided to host the KPL. The SLC CEO is in talks but you have to be patient. We are currently discussing whether to go ahead or postponed the LPL, that decision the management will have to take. The KPL was not in the schedule”, he said.

As per the website of the Kashmir Premier League, the league has credentials from the Paksitan Cricket Board among others. In KPL six teams will feature including Rawalakot Hawks, Kotli Lions, Mirpur Royals, Muzaffarabad Tigers, Overseas Warriors, & Bagh Stallions. All these six teams will fight for the KPL title from August 6 to 17 in Muzaffarabad.

Last month SLC confirmed that the second edition of the LPL will start on July 30 & the final will be played on August 22. The Player Registration Process for LPL 2021 was started on June 21, & closed on June 28. Many players from Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Nepal & the USA have registered themselves for the second edition of the Lankan Premier League.

The first edition of the LPL which is Sri-Lanka’s topmost domestic T20 league was started last year & was held at the MRICS, Hambantota with the participation of five teams. The inaugural edition of the LPL was held under a secure bio-bubble environment & was a successful event. The Jaffna Stallions won the LPL 2020 by defeating Galle Gladiators in the final on December 16, 2020.
