Dindigul Dragons vs Madurai Panthers: The Dindigul Dragons will lock horns with Madhurai Panthers in the fourth match of the TNPL 2021 on July 22. The match will commence at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Dragons are yet to win the prestigious TNPL title in the four seasons they have played so far. However, they have finished as runners-up in the 2018 & 2019 editions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. In fact, the Dragons have made it to the playoffs three out of four times. In the previous season of the TNPL, the Chepauk Super Gillies defeated Dindigul Dragons by 12 runs in the finals after Dragons failed to chase a target of 127 runs in 20 overs.
On the contrary, Madhurai Panthers have started their TNPL campaign on a low note after finishing in the eighth spot in the 2016 & 2017 seasons. However, they bounced back & clinched the TNPL title in 2018. In 2019 they made it to the playoffs but lost to Dindigul Dragons in Qualifier 2 at the NPR College Ground.
Match: Dindigul Dragons vs Madurai Panthers
Date & Time: July 22, 2021 7:30 PM (IST) & 2:00 PM (GMT)
Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The weather conditions will be cloudy during the match time with no chances of drizzles. The temperature at Chepauk will be around 31 degrees Celsius with humidity around the 60s in the air.
The pitch in Chepauk has traditionally been low & slow in nature. Batting is not easy throughout the 40 overs while in the second half the batsmen are likely to face more difficulty to score as the pitch may slow down. Batting first should remain the priority of both the teams considering Chepauk’s slow pitch.
C Hari Nishanth who scored 322 runs in the previous TNPL season would be the key player for the Dragons. M Sanjay & K Vishal are the other players who will have the responsibility to bring up a decent score for their side by power-hitting in the powerplay.
K Vishal, S Arun, A Vivek, C Hari Nishanth, R Vimal, R Hariharan, M Sanjay, S Kishan Kumar, L Vignesh, R Suthesh, V Lakshman
The Panthers will rely on their star batsman Arun Karthik who registered the third-highest scores in the 2019 edition of TNPL by scoring 356 runs. J Kaushik is another player to look for who has scored 195 runs & scalped 10 wickets in the last season of TNPL. The rest of the players have performed satisfactorily in the previous season & will be expected to perform well in today’s match.
Arun Karthik, B Anirudh, V Aditya, R Srinivasan, K Deeban, A Srinivas, DT Chandrashekhar, J Kaushik, D Chandrasena, K Akash, R Mithun
In the last five seasons, the Dragons had an edge on the Panthers who had defeated them four times. The Dragons look like a stronger unit and should be able to win once again.
