Live Cricket Score: India opening batsman Rohit Sharma couldn’t register a three-figure score as he was sent back to the pavilion by England’s pacer James Anderson in the second session of the first day of India vs England Lord’s Test on Thursday.
Rohit & KL Rahul together registered 100 runs stand, this was the first time that India registered an opening partnership of more than 100 runs since 2011. At the tea break, Indi’s score reads 157/2 with Rahul 55* & Virat Kohli 0* currently unbeaten at the crease.
After the lunch break during the second session, Rahul & Rohit continued their innings from where they left & the duo together brought up the 100 runs stand in the 33rd over of the innings. Rohit was playing aggressive shots & was marching ahead to register another century in test cricket at Lord’s. However, Rohit (83) couldn’t register a century as he was sent back to the pavilion by Anderson in the 44th over & this put a full stop to the 126 run opening stand. Then Cheteshwar Pujara came on the pitch & once again got failed to create a mark with his bat as he was dismissed by Anderson for just nine runs.
In the end, Virat Kohli & Rahul ensured that India enters the tea break without losing any wicket. Earlier in the first session of Day 1, Indian openers Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul displayed their A-game to take India into the lunch break without losing even a single wicket. At the lunch break, India was 46/0 with Rohit 35* & Rahul 10* unbeaten at the crease. The first session was interrupted due to rains as a result only 18.4 overs were bowled in the first session.
Earlier Joe Root won the toss & opted to bowl first as Root was quite sure that he wants to use the overcast conditions to put pressure on India. However, Rohit & Rahul made sure that hosts couldn’t have an edge on visitors & laid a solid foundation to begin the game with.
