Legendary South Africa Wicket-keeper batter Mark Boucher is all set to step down from his role of South Africa Head Coach after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2022, announced CSA in its Press Release. Mark Boucher informed the South African team about his decision in a meeting on Monday afternoon after the conclusion of the final Test against England which was won by the hosts by 2-1.
Boucher has decided to resign in order to pursue opportunities in accordance with his future career & personal objectives. As per the reports, Boucher is in talks with an IPL franchise for the role of Head Coach & is in the final stages of negotiations. Boucher will take the charge of the IPL team from next season & will be involved with the team-building process from November.
“Mr. Boucher has decided to resign in order to pursue other opportunities in line with his future career and personal objectives. While Cricket SA greatly regrets that Mr. Boucher is unable to see out the term of his contract, it respects his decision and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors,” CSA said in an official media release.
Pholetsi Moseki, CSA CEO said, “We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has invested in South African cricket as the Head Coach over the past three years. He has helped navigate us through some rough waters following the departures of so many senior players through retirement and has helped lay some strong foundations for the next generation of Proteas. We are extremely grateful to him for the work he has done and would like to wish him well with the next chapter of his career.”
A Glimpse of Coach Mark Boucher’s Career
Mark Boucher has taken up the position of South Africa Head Coach back in 2019. He went on lead the South African team in 10 Test wins, including a memorable 2-1 series win against India on their home turf this January. Under his reign, the South African team is currently ranked number two in the ICC WTC 2021-2023 Points Table.
In the limited-overs arena, Boucher has helped South Africa to claim 12 ODI & 23 T20Is wins with their most recent win being a historic 2-1 series victory against England. Mark Boucher last series as South Africa Head Coach will be India’s white-ball tour to be played from September 28-October 11. Later he will accompany the South Africa squad to the T20 World Cup in Australia, where South Africa is placed in group A along with Bangladesh, India & Pakistan. The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be played from October 16 to November 13. The CSA will soon begin the recruitment process for appointing the successor of Mark Boucher.
