Michael Hogan reverses retirement to sign One-Year Deal with Kent

Australia born former Glamorgan fast bowler, Michael Hogan has reversed his decision to take retirement from International Cricket to sign a one-year deal with Kent at the age of 41. Hogan who holds a British passport & comes under the local player category made his first-class debut for Western Australia before switching to Glamorgan & enjoying a decade-long career with the club.

However last year he announced that 2022 would be his last year with the club. He was a reliable performer for the club & got a chance to feature in the Hundred tournament as a wildcard entry for Southern Brave. After Glamorgan’s final match in the 2022 season, he revealed that he has been contacted by various other counties to continue his career. He said, “It’s better to be wanted than not, but at 41 years old, I’m over the moon with how long a career I’ve had. I’m looking forward to spending time with my family.” But Kent’s offer has motivated Hogan to rethink returning to cricket. He will strengthen their seam attack after the departures of Matt Milnes, Harry Podmore & all-rounder Darren Stevens.

“Hodges has been an outstanding bowler for many years and will bring a vast amount of experience to our bowling unit. His numbers show he is an invaluable acquisition, and he continues to be a threat in both four-day and T20 cricket,” Kent’s director of cricket, Paul Downton, said.

An Overview of Michael Hogan Illustrious Career

Hogan was Glamorgan’s leading wicket-taker in both the Vitality T20 Blast with 20 at 16.65 & the County Championship with 45 wickets at 27.44. He also captained the club between the years 2017 & 2018. Reportedly his age-old franchise Glamorgan is unhappy with his move to Kent. The contract at Kent will help Hogan to begin his career in coaching as he joins their coaching line-up for their defense of the Royal London Cup.

It will also test his ability to maintain his rare world record of being a player who has never been dismissed by LBW in the 380 matches he has played. Hogan is very excited about his new role & is rearing to take up this new challenge in a new environment.
