New Zealand’s star spinner, Mitchell Santner has resigned from a contract with Worcestershire for T20 Vitality Blast 2023. He will join the club as an overseas signing along with Michael Bracewell for the Blast.
Featuring for Worcestershire in the 2016 & 2017 seasons, Santner is the club’s third-highest wicket-taker in t20Is with experience playing in IPL & CPL. Speaking about his signing Santner said that it’s a great experience to rejoin Worcestershire for the third season of Vitality T20 Blast 2023. He also said that associating with Worcestershire for the third season & reuniting with old friends is something very exciting & he is looking forward to donning the colors of Worcestershire in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023.
“A few New Zealanders have played for Worcestershire since I left, like Martin Guptill and Ish Sodhi, and it will be great to have Michael Bracewell as a team-mate, someone who has already made his mark in international cricket and will be an asset next summer,” Santner added to his statement.
Worcestershire ended the 2022 edition of Vitality Blast at the bottom of the North group in last year’s edition with just two wins in 14 matches with Captain Moeen Ali leaving the squad followed by Head Coach Alex Gidman with Alan Richardson taking the charge of the team.
Speaking about Mitchell Santner’s signing Paul Pridgeon said, “Mitchell has shown his ability at the international level and knows the club, and some of the players, from his previous spell. He ticks a lot of boxes. He gives us another option in the spin department, a facet of the game which has proved so key in T20 cricket, and can also strike a powerful ball with the bat.”
He further said that bringing Michael Santner back to the squad will strengthen his t20I team & back up their motivation to improve their last year’s performance in the T20I format.
