MLRW vs MLSW, WBBL 2022: Melbourne Stars stuns Melbourne Renegades by Six Wickets

MLRW vs MLSW, WBBL 2022: In yet another scintillating performance by the Melbourne Stars Women, the in-form side registered a thumping win over arch-rivals Melbourne Renegades in their last pool stage fixture at the ongoing edition of the Women’s Big Bash League 2022. With this win, Melbourne Stars climb up to the sixth position in the standings.

Melbourne Renegades posted a decent total on board

Winning the toss at the Eastern Oval in Ballarat, Melbourne Stars skipper Nicole Faltum made an exceptional decision to bowl first. Batting first, Melbourne Renegades succumbed to a breathtaking bowling performance by the Stars as they were bowled out for a mere total of 91 runs in their first innings of 19 overs.

Melbourne Renegades were off to a nightmare start as opening batter and skipper Molineux was dismissed for a golden duck. Matthews (24) and Prestwidge (13) put up a healthy stand of 37 runs for the second wicket as Renegades put up 32 runs in the power play. However, the middle order collapsed thereafter as no other batter except for Atapattu (17) and Leeson (15) could cross the single-digit mark.

For Melbourne Stars, Sophie Day (4/19) starred in the bowling attack with her blazing performance. Sutherland (3/17) provided vital support to Day by bowling splendidly whereas Garth (1/10) and Moloney (1/10) chipped in a wicket apiece.

Melbourne Stars pulled off the chase in Style

Chasing a meager total of 92 runs, Melbourne Stars were off to a blizzard start as Winfield (9) and Rodrigues (8) were dismissed in quick succession as the side struggled at 30/2 in the power play. Annabel Sutherland (42) then came to the rescue and played a match-winning knock and registered a crucial 47-run stand alongside Capsey (19) as Melbourne Stars anchored the target in 17.3 overs.

For Melbourne Renegades, Shabnim Ismail (1/15), Coyte (1/16), and Matthews (1/16) grabbed a wicket apiece but their efforts went in vain as Renegades lost another consecutive fixture. Melbourne Renegades will take on Sydney Sixers in their upcoming fixture on Sunday.
