And just like the main event, auctions too have never failed to leave cricket fans in awe. This time also the much-anticipated IPL 2023 auction turned out to be a record-breaking affair as franchisees left no stone unturned to grab the services of players whom they thought as a perfect fit for their line-up.

IPL 2023 auction was held in Kochi on 23rd December & the overseas players especially the all-rounders were the winners in the auction as franchisees didn’t shy of spending millions in order to grab the services of their desired players with the hope of clinching dream title.

England players were the biggest winners in the recently concluded IPL 2023 auction as three of them occupied a spot in the list of the top five most expensive player in IPL 2023. All 10 franchisees indulged in an intense bidding war but only a few of them could get their dream players by shedding huge amounts.

Let’s have a look at the top 5 most expensive player in the IPL 2023:-

1) Sam Curran bought by Punjab Kings for 18.5 Crore:

The Englishman was every ‘franchise dream player’ in the IPL 2023 as almost every team of the IPL entered the bidding war for acquiring the services of Sam Curran. But it was Punjab Kings who stand out of the crowd & grabbed the services of the most desirable pick in the IPL 2023 auction. Punjab Kings signed Sam Curran for a breaking amount of Rs 18.5 crore which made him the most expensive player bought in IPL 2023. With this Sam Curran also surpassed the record of Chris Morris who was bought for 16.25 crore by Rajasthan Royals back in IPL 2021 auctions to become the most expensive player in the history of IPL

The race for acquiring Sam Curran’s services began between Mumbai Indians & Royal Challengers Bangalore who entered the bidding war from his base price of 2 crores & quickly reached 7 crores. RCB walked out of the bidding war while RR entered the bidding battle. Both MI & RR were in a tussle for Curran. Soon CSK, LSG & PBKS the trio joined the bidding war raising Curran’s bid amount. But PBKS didn’t give up & finally sealed the deal at 18.5 crores to make Curran a part of the Punjab Kings family. Notably, Curran was also named the ‘Man of the tournament’ at the T20 World Cup 2022 after scalping 13 wickets in the tournament. He returned with match-winning figures of 3-12 in the T20 World Cup 2022 final which helped him to win the ‘Player of the Match’ Award.
