Mahela Jayawardene to quit coaching role at Southern Brave franchise
Notably, after taking up a global role with Mumbai Indians, Jayawardene has decided to quit his position with the Southern Brave Franchise in the Hundred 2023. He met Brave’s management last week & explained to them that he is planning to exit from his role due to increased responsibilities with the Mumbai Idnians franchise after getting promoted to a global role. Southern Brave is searching for ideal replacements with Mahela Jayawardene expected to play a crucial role in the selection & handover process.
He had coached Brave to the title triumph in the Hundred 2021 edition. But they couldn’t maintain their prowess in the 2022 edition finishing seventh in the Points table. The major reason for their failure was the deterioration of their bowling attack due to injury & unavailability of their key bowlers.
Meanwhile, Welsh Fire who ended the Hundred 2022 season in the last position too is looking for a new coach after Gary Kirsten left his position. David Saker who worked with England’s T20I team in Australia & Pakistan.
