3 years back on this day, wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik’s stint helped India seal victory by defeating Bangladesh in the final of the Nidahas Trophy at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
India beats Bangladesh by four wickets in the finals of the tournament as Dinesh Karthik’s brilliant six on the last ball took India towards a glorious win. In the final, Bangladesh had scored a challenging 166 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In response, team India found themselves struggling at 98 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The wicket of Manish Pandey in the 18th over and Vijay Shankar’s sluggish innings only added to the pressure as the required run-rate increased.
India with the need of 34 runs of the last two overs, Dinesh Karthik came on the crease & smashed Bangladesh’s bowling attack. The Dinesh Karthik has scored three boundaries as India registered 22 runs form the penultimate over.
On the last ball when India needed just five runs to win, Karthik hit a six over extra cover to seal spectacular victory on India’s name which was almost impossible. His eight ball knock comprised of two fours & three sixes & he was also awarded as “Man of the Match” for his match winning knock. Karthik will now be seen in action for KKR in the IPL 2021 which is scheduled to start from April 9.
KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2020 & Karthik finished the league stage with scoring 169 runs from 14 matches. In this year’s IPL season, KKR will start its campaign against SRH in their first match of the tournament on April 11.
