South Africa’s star bowler Dale Steyn said that he has decided to opt out of the IPL 2021 because he felt that other T20Leagues were “more rewarding as a player”. Dale Steyn’s controversial statement has raised many eyebrows & many cricketers have contrasting views on it. When India’s Test Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked about his view on Dale’s statement he refused to comment on it but said that the IPL has provided many Indian & overseas Cricketers with a platform to express themselves over the years.
Dale Steyn is currently playing for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL 2021. Dale said that since players earn so much money in the IPL that sometimes, “cricket gets forgotten”. Ajinkya Rahane refused to comment on Dale Steyn’s statement saying that he is not sure exactly what Dale Steyn had said.
“See, I am here to talk about the fourth Test match and not here to talk about PSL or Sri Lanka Premier League. IPL gave us that platform to express ourselves and also to a lot of Indians and overseas players. I am not sure what Dale Steyn has said, I am here to talk about this Test match,” Rahane said during a virtual press conference, in response to media’s question.
Dale Steyn also emphasized that every IPL franchise has huge squads filled with so many big cricketers & more importance is given to the money a player is making in IPL.
“I have found that playing in other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player,” Steyn said on a YouTube channel Cricket Pakistan.
“When you go to IPL, there’s such big squads and there’s so many big names and there’s so much emphasis on the amount of money that the players earn that sometimes, somewhere along the line the cricket gets forgotten,” he added.
Dale Steyn was a part of RCB in IPL 2020. Dale failed to perform well in the IPL 2020 & decided to opt out of this year’s edition after which RCB released him ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. Meanwhile Ajinkya Rahane confirmed that Umesh Yadav has been bowling well in the net sessions ahead of the fourth test which will start on March 4 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
