AUS W vs IND W, 1st ODI: Darcie’s Brown stunning four-wicket haul & a 126 run opening stand between Alyssa Healy & Rachael Haynes guided Australia to nine wickets over India in the first ODI at the Harrup Park in Mackay on Tuesday. With this crucial victory, the Aussies took a crucial 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series. Today’s win is special for the Australia Women’s team as with today’s victory they registered their 25th consecutive win in the ODI format.
Sent in to bat first, Shafali Verma & Smriti Mandhana got India to a good start but couldn’t turn it into a big score as Brown struck in the fourth over to send Shafali Verma back to the pavilion. The early wicket turned the game into Australia’s favor as Brown struck again to send Mandhana back to the pavilion two overs later.
Debutant Yastika Bhatia then stepped up & stabilize India’s innings along with captain Mithali Raj. The duo stitched a crucial 77 runs stand before Darcie Brown struck to give Australia another major breakthrough by dismissing Bhatia for 35 runs. Debutant Yastika Bhatia showed an impressive stint with the bat by scoring 35 off 51 balls. Darcie Brown was seen in her best form as she scalped her fourth wicket by removing Deepti Sharma who top-edged a short one to square leg.
Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj was heading strong with the bat. She registered 61 runs off 107 balls & surpassed 20,000 runs in international Cricket. Mithali is already the highest run-scorer in women’s cricket across all formats. She achieved this remarkable feat during India’s tour of England held earlier this year.
However, when Mithali was eyeing to register a century her knock was put to an end by Sophie Molineux. The Aussie spinner bowled out Mithali Raj for 61 runs. However, Raj’s vital 61 off 58 balls helped India to post a decent 225-8 in the first ODI. Richa Ghosh & Jhulan Ghosawmi also contributed to India’s total by putting up 32 runs & 20 runs respectively.
Openers Haynes & Alyssa starred with the bat to put hosts in fore-front
Australia’s opener batters displayed a stunning show with the bat & completely smashed the Indian bowling attack. Rachael Haynes & Alyssa Healy kept the Indian bowlers at bay by scoring runs at a quick rate.
Rachael Haynes & Alyssa Healy surpassed 2000 ODI runs in today’s clash. Rachael Haynes amassed 2030 runs in 58 innings while Alyssa Healy has reached 2004 runs in 64 innings.
During the match, Healy was dismissed in the 22nd over after registering her 13th ODI half-century. She was caught at mid-off trying to attack Poonam Yadav, but the match was already in control of Australian women. Alyssa Healy scored 77 runs in 77 balls in an innings comprising eight boundaries and two sixes. Australia didn’t let the game go away from their hands as Captain Meg Lanning joined Haynes and carried on from where Healy had left off. Meg Lanning 53* & Haynes 93* took Australia over the line with 54 balls to spare. India and Australia will now face off in the second Women’s ODI on September 24 at the same venue.
