India’s all-rounder Axar Patel scalped 10 wickets in the third test match against England in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Axar had picked 6 wickets for 38 runs in the first innings & then picked 5 wickets for 32 runs in the second innings as England were dismissed for 112 & 81 runs setting India 49 runs to win.
Axar Patel ran through England’s top batting order by dismissing England’s top four batsmen. Openers Dom Sibley, Jonny Bairstow & Captain Joe Root all fell prey to Axar’s bowling who bamboozled the batsmen who couldn’t pick the deliveries that turned from the ones that went straight on.
Axar was on the verge of achieving hat-trick at one point after scalping England’s last wicket in the first innings & then dismissing Crawley on the first ball of England’s second innings. Axar was going to scalp his third wicket but not without drama as Bairstow was given out LBW on the field but review was taken & he was saved. But Bairstow’s happiness didn’t lasted long as Bairstow was bowled on the very next ball.
Axar went ahead by rattling England’s top order by scalping Sibley’s wicket & then trapped Joe Root for LBW. Axar then dismissed Ben Foakes to complete his five wicket haul. Axar’s five wickets haul along with Ashwin’s for wickets for 48 runs reduced England for their lowest ever total in India i.e. 81 runs. During the second day of the third test match, Ashwin reached the milestone of 400 Test wickets and became the fastest Indian bowler to get to the milestone.
