Azhar Mahmood joins England Coaching Staff for the Upcoming T20Is against Pakistan!


Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood will be a member of England’s Coaching staff when England will be facing his native country during an upcoming three match 20-20 series.

Mahmood who is 45 years old has lots of English County Experience from his time with Surrey & Kent. Until last year he was a member of Pakistan’s Coaching Staff under the guidance of Mickey Arthur but left as part of a post-World Cup clear out when the contracts of the South African player & his assistants were not renewed by PCB.

However Mahmood has started a new phase of his career & has become a part of England’s coaching staff. He will now support England Bowling Coach Jon Lewis during a series at Emirates Old Trafford starting on August 28. Meanwhile England have recalled Dawid Malan after the Yorkshire batsman missed the recent ODI series win over Ireland.

In a coronavirus affected season, England’s white ball team remains separate from Test Squad who begin the final match of their series against Pakistan at Southampton on Friday. Hampshire Batsman James Vince has been replaced by the fit again Malan due to his low scores against Ireland.

England’s National Team Selector Ed Smith said that, “In this crowded international summer, players who are currently in the Test match bio-secure bubble for the Pakistan Test series are not included in this squad”.

“We want to give multi-format players some opportunity to rest and refresh, while still selecting strong squads for every series. We will announce the squad for the Australia T20 series at a later date”.

Reserves: Pat Brown (Worcestershire), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Reece Topley (Surrey)
