Kusul Perera’s brilliant century followed by Chameera’s five-wicket haul helped Sri-Lanka to beat Bangladesh in the third & the final ODI of the series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Friday.
Chameera’s five wickets haul & Perera’s Century helped Sri Lanka to beat the hosts by 97 runs
Chasing a Mammoth total of 286 runs, Bangladesh’s opener batsman failed to create momentum in the first 10 overs. Naim Sheikh was dismissed in the second over of the innings while Shakib-al-Hasan who was batting in the top order failed to live up to the team’s expectation in the entire series. While Chameera picked the wickets of Hasan & Naim. After that Chameera picked the crucial wicket of Bangladesh’s Captain Tamim Iqbal. Iqbal got to a brilliant start but failed to convert it to a big score.
Mushfiqur Rahim & Mosaddek Hossain together stitched a fabulous partnership of over 50 runs after losing early wickets at the top order. However, Mushfiqur could not save his team from defeat as he was sent back to the pavilion by Ramesh Mendis on 28 runs. In the 32nd over Hossain was dismissed by Mendis to clinch the second wicket. After the dismissal of Hossain, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Chameera registered his first five-wicket haul in today’s ODI match. Mahmudullah showed some resistance at the end & tried to reduce the chase by scoring runs however the chase was too big.
Taskin Ahmed scalped four wickets to bring hosts back on track
Earlier in the first innings, Kusul Perera registered a gleaming century to take Sri-Lanka to a superlative total of 286/6 in the first innings. For Bangladesh Taskin Ahmed scalped four wickets to bring the hosts back on winning terms however failed miserably.
Sri Lanka won the toss & opted to bat first, Captain Kusul Perera & opener Danushka Gunathilaka gave visitors a power-pack start by smashing Bangladesh’s key bowlers for maximums. Bangladesh’s pacer Taksin Ahmed took two crucial wickets in an over of opener Danushka & Pathum Nissanka to bring Bangladesh back on track. Gunathilaka was clean bowled in the 12th over of the innings while Nissanka was sent back by Taskin for a duck. However, Sri Lanka’s captain along with Kusal Mendia to take his team’s total to 150 but again Taskin came into the attack & removed Mendis in the 26th over for 22 runs.
After the fall of Mendis wicket, Kusal Perera was sent back by Shoriful Islam right in the 40th over. Kusal scored 120 runs in 122 balls by hitting 11 boundaries & one six. With this Kusal registered his sixth ODI century. Whereas Dhananajaya De Silva scored fifty runs in 70 balls. For Bangladesh, Taskin scalped four wickets while Shoriful Islam scalped one wicket respectively.
