Zimbabwe heroics were in vain as Bangladesh scored a stunning 322/8 runs all because of the outstanding performance of Tamim Iqbal who made the highest individual score by a Bangladesh player in ODI’s and thereby bagged a glorious victory by 4 runs!
The thrilling match was full of twist and turns, Zimbabwe almost pulled off a stunning win but Bangladesh past their rivals, in the end, to save the day, registering a thrilling four-run victory in Sylhet in the second ODI on Tuesday. After Tamim Iqbal creating a history by fetching record-breaking 158 runs, Bangladesh’s score reached superlative 322/8 runs. It seemed like Zimbabwe would lose the match as they were able to make just 225/7 in the 42nd over. But thanks to Donald Tiripano (55 off 28 balls) and Tinotenda Mutombodzi (34 off 21 balls) launched a stirring counter-attack with an eighth-wicket partnership that brought 80 runs in just 7.3 overs. Tiripano hit five sixes including two in the final over, and he needed to hit another six off the final ball to register an unusual win. But Al-Amin with his exemplary bowling held his nerve at the last over to seal the win for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Player Sikandar Raza was the top-scoring player who scored superlative 66 runs while opener Tinashe Kamunhukamwe and 19-year old Wesley Madhevere also scored 51 and 52 respectively. Iqbal became the first individual Bangladesh batsman to fetch a majestic 7,000 ODI runs after he roared with an unusual 158 runs. The hosts rode his heroics to post 322/8 in 50 overs after electing to bat first. Tamim, who played his first ODI in nine months in the first match, had taken a break from cricket in the second half of 2019. The highest score which Tamim has ever made in his last seven ODI innings is just 36, but on Tuesday he broke all his records by fetching 158 runs off 136 balls by swinging 20 fours and three sixes! The 30-year-old has been Bangladesh’s leading run-getter in one-dayers and this feat adds another feather to his cap.
Bangladesh also improved its highest total against Zimbabwe made just two days ago just by a run. Zimbabwe got numbed after witnessing an unusual marvelous performance by Tamim Iqbal which helped the entire Bangladesh team to register the victory of 2nd ODI on their name!
