BBL 2021-22: Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder, Match 42 Preview

A highly-anticipated encounter awaits on Sunday, January 9, as Perth Scorchers take on Sydney Sixers at International Sports Stadium in the 42nd match of BBL 2021-22. Both teams have fared quite well this season, much like in the previous edition. Perth Scorchers have won 8 games out of 10 and thus find themselves at the top of the BBL 2021-22 points table. However, their last game resulted in a defeat at the hands of Sydney Thunder on Thursday.

Against disciplined bowling from Thunder, Perth Scorchers were restricted to just 133 runs. Bancroft was the top scorer with 30 runs off 31 balls. All the top-four batsmen, namely Patterson (19 off 14), Bancroft (30 off 31), Munro (18 off 20), and Laurie Evans (20 off 18) were guilty of not converting the start into big scores. They missed Mitchell Marsh badly. The Scorchers would be keen on exhibiting a much better performance with the bat.

The bowlers too had a forgettable day at the office. Andrew Tye got two wickets but went for 38 runs in 4 overs. Mathew Kelly though bowled well for his 1 for 29 in 4 overs. The other bowlers, however, looked ordinary.

Facing them are Sydney Sixers. The two out of their last three games have got abandoned due to rain. The last game that they played was against Perth Scorchers only. They conceded 143 runs in the first innings, thanks to a brilliant 45-run knock off 24 balls. For Sydney Sixers, Hayden Kerr was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 4 for 32 in 4 overs. Daniel Christian too was brilliant for his 2 for 14.

Sydney Sixers, in reply, managed to score 133 runs in the second innings, thereby falling 10 runs short of the target. All the top five batsmen went for single-digit scores to find themselves reeling at 61 for 5 in 12.1 overs.  Perth Scorchers looked to bundle them out for under 100 but what followed was a brilliant knock from Daniel Christian.

He put on an exhibition of boundaries, scoring 73 runs off 61 balls. However, despite his heroics, Sixers fell 10 runs short of the target. Sydney Sixers will, once again, be taking on Perth Scorchers and would be keen to take revenge on Sunday.
