BBL: Brisbane Heat denies Contract to Chris Lynn, ends 11 years long Association

BBL: Brisbane Heat made a shocking decision on Wednesday by ending their 11 years long association with BBL’s leading run-scorer Chris Lynn. The Club has announced that they would not offer a new contract to Lynn for the BBL 12 after having a poor campaign in BBL 11 where they finished in the seventh position.

Lynn had already stepped down as the Captain of Brisbane Heat prior to the BBL 12 edition with Jimmy Peirson taking over the reins.

Lynn has been the backbone of the Brisbane Heat franchise over the years & has led the franchise 50 times. Overall he has played 102 matches for Heat & is BBL’s all-time leading run-scorer with over 3000 runs in their kitty. However, during BBL 11, Chris Lynn managed to score just 215 runs in 12 games, and with Heat also enduring a poor campaign, the decision to release him was made.

“It’s not a decision that has come easily to the Heat by any means,” Svenson said. “Chris Lynn and his feats have made an indelible impression on the club, and his efforts over more than a decade can rightly be said to have had an enormously positive effect on cricket.

“We should gratefully acknowledge the influence he has had on a generation of kids who have grown up thrilled by his batting exploits.

“His appearance in a teal jumper each year would no doubt be linked by many households to the onset of their holidays, with the BBL being such an integral part of summer holidays.”

“The Heat wish him nothing but the best for the future as he transitions into another phase of his career and thank him wholeheartedly for his commitment to the game in Queensland.”

The decision of releasing Chriss Lynn was made by Queensland and Brisbane Heat’s retention and recruitment committee. Healy who is the chairman of the Retention Committee said that the decision marked the beginning of the next phase of Brisbane Heat.

“Chris Lynn will be missed by thousands, however, the decision we have made as a club is about building on the legacy that he leaves as a foundation player, captain, and ambassador for the Heat,” Healy said. “He holds a very special place in our history.”

Brisbane Heat are likely to rope in Australia’s Test Opener Usman Khawaja as a replacement for Chris Lynn. Being the Queensland team’s Captain & living in Brisbane, Khawaja looks a perfect fit for the Brisbane Heat franchise.
