The BCCI is all set to discuss India’s home series against England along with scheduling of the upcoming tour of Australia & the domestic season when the BCCI’s Apex Council holds an online Meeting on October 17.
The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had said that the Board will do all it can to ensure that the home series against England remains in India itself & domestic tournaments kick off at some point despite of the rising COVID-19 cases in India. India’s COVID-19 case is nearing 70 lakhs & the number of deaths has surged 1 lakh. England are scheduled to tour India next year between January & March for fives Test matches, three ODIs & three T20Is. Just as IPL 2020 is commencing in UAE, the BCCI is looking at UAE as an alternative for the home series against England.
However the moment India is stable to host the England series, Mumbai could be the best option to create a bubble with three international venues — Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India and DY Patil Stadium. As far as the Domestic Cricket is concerned, the BCCI had initially planned to start it with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy from November 19, but there still remains doubts due to the situation arising out of the pandemic. But a few factors have to be taken into consideration before going ahead with the plans to start a shortened domestic season.
