Ben Stokes hit his second IPL Century as RR completed his thrilling chase against Mumbai Indians. Without the service of his regular Captain, Mumbai Indians still posted a whopping target of 195 with the support of Hardik’s half-century.
Ben Stokes 107 runs off 60 balls & Samson’s third half century of the season helped RR to an 8 wickets victory in a match which was very important for them to win so that their hopes to qualify for the play-offs stays alive. However RR’s victory was a knock-out for CSK who are now out of contention for a top four finish.
Ben Stokes whose second IPL century was a relive in RR’s chase of a massive target of 195 runs. Chasing a big total, Stokes did not faced a delivery in the first two overs. In his first six deliveries he smashed Trent for 16 runs to put pressure on Mumbai Indians after Uthappa got out on Pattinson’s deliver in the previous over. From then, there was no stopping for him & Stokes ensured that Royals didn’t slow down while chasing a big total even after Smith got easily dismissed on Pattinson’s delivery.
Stokes hit a spectacular six off Boult’s first delivery in the 19th over to register his second century & followed it up with a boundary off the next ball to lead Royals to win the most crucial two points keeping the team alive in the race of qualifying for the play-offs. Earlier Jofra Archer gave the Royals an early breakthrough by fetching Quinton De Kock’s wicket in the first over. Ishan Kishan & Suryakumar Yadav rebuilt for MI before Kishan got out on Karthik Taygi’s ball.
Soon, Shreyas Gopal dismissed Yadav & stand-in captain Kieron Pollard to put MI under pressure. However Saurabh Tiwari picked up the momentum & Hardik Pandya went on a blitzkrieg as they went on to score 195. Pandya finished his innings with 60 runs off 21 deliveries. With the win, Rajasthan Royals are now at 6th place in the IPL 2020 points table with 10 points from 12 games.
