Bowling Coach Bharat Arun, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, and reserve batter Abhimanyu Easwaran rejoined the Indian team in Durham on Saturday after completing a ten days quarantine period in accordance with UK’s COVID-19 protocols. The trio also took part in the training sessions held on Saturday.
The trio had to quarantine in London while the rest of the Indian squad traveled to Durham after being termed as close contacts of training assistant Dayanand garani who had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 14. Dayanand Garani has not rejoined the team yet.
Rishabh Pant who had also tested positive for COVID-19 has rejoined the squad on Thursday after recovering from COVID-19. After joining team India in their bio-secure bubble Rishabh Pant on Thursday took to social media to thank India’s head coach Ravi Shastri for giving him a “grand welcome”. The trio is now available for selection. In the absence of Pant & Saha, KL Rahul did the job of wicket-keeping for India in the three-day practice match against County Select XI that ended in a draw.
KL Rahul made 101 runs in the first innings. Jadeja also scored twin half-centuries 75 & 51 & stitched an 87 runs stand with Cheteshwar Pujara in the second innings to help India seal a draw in the warm-up match.
Meanwhile adding to the injury list, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the five-match test series against England due to a fracture in his finger. Injured players Avesh Khan, Washington Sundar & Shubman Gill will not feature in the test series against England. The BCCI & National selectors have selected Prithvi Shaw & Suryakumar Yadav to travel to England as replacements for injured players to support the Indian team in the test series against England.
