New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson has been a major driving force in helping New Zealand to attain the No.1 Test Ranking for the first time by hitting triple figures in each of his last three matches including two double centuries. His outstanding knock has helped him to overtake India Captain Virat Kohli & Australia’s Steve Smith to become top ranked test batsman.
Of course, Kane Williamson enjoys a massive fan following & adding to the list of his fans is his teammate & wicket-keeper batsman BJ Watling. On Wednesday, Watling suddenly crashed Williamson’s Press Conference to ask him for an autograph as New Zealand achieved a series sweep against Pakistan at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch
“What’s going on?” Williamson asks, momentarily confused.
“Sorry, big fan,” Watling says as he hands him a pen and a jersey to sign.
It was truly an amusing “fanboy” moment for Watling with Williamson. Legendary batsman Williamson scored 238 runs in Christchurch as New Zealand defeated Pakistan by an inning & 176 runs. Henry Nicholls & Darryl Mitchell also made crucial contributions in New Zealand’s historic victory against Pakistan with their bat while Kyle Jamieson starred with the ball.
Nicholls scored 157 runs while Mitchell hit his maiden test century against Pakistan’s hapless bowling attack. Jamieson took five wickets in each innings to record his maiden ten-wicket haul in a Test match. He was named Player of the Match. The win helped New Zealand to lead the series with 2-0 with Williamson earning the Player of the Series award.
New Zealand is now on top of the ICC Test Rankings for the first time in the history of cricket & is in a good position to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship in Lord’s.
