India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has surpassed Pakistan captain Babar Azam & grabbed sixth spot in the latest ICC test batting rankings released on Saturday.
India’s Deputy Captain Ajinkya Rahane has moved up one place up on eighth spot. Often criticized for his slow approach Pujara played like a warrior in the 4th test match against Australia & helped India to set the stage for a historic series win at Australia’s very own the Gabba. He took several blows on the body, fingers, and head, but did not give up.
Cheteshwra Pujara stood up tall defending the Australian bowlers who were looking for a single opportunity to break India’s lower batting order. On the other hand, Rahane played the Captain’s knock in the second test match to help India clinch the series. Rahane, who is now at the eight spot, hit 24 off 22 balls before Rishabh Pant’s match-winning knock in the fourth Test.
Indian captain Virat Kohli & New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson have retained their fourth spot & first spot in the latest test batting rankings while England’s Ben Stokes who was rested for Sri Lanka tests moved down by two places to tenth position in the ICC test batting rankings. In the bowling rankings Indian bowlers Bumrah & Ashwin have retained their eight spot & ninth spot while England’s pacer James Anderson has jumped one spot up to number six spot.
Last week, Anderson became the second fast bowler after Richard Hadley to take 30 fifers in Test cricket. While the Englishman is the second pacer he is sixth on the overall list. Anderson achieved the feat in the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.
