Delhi Capitals contingent has been forced into isolation again after another COVID-19 Positive case emerged within the contingent in the latest round of testing. According to sources in the franchise & the BCCI, a net bowler had tested positive for COVID-19.
The news came just a few hours before the Delhi Capitals match against Chennai Super Kings at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday evening. Sources further revealed that a fresh round of tests was conducted on Sunday morning with all the members of the contingent being confined to their rooms.
The BCCI is yet to make any official announcement regarding the fixture but sources in the franchises have said that they are not expecting any change in the schedule. “We understand the match will go ahead, otherwise we would have been informed by now,” said a CSK official. “It is only a net bowler and all players are in their rooms. So we do not expect changes.”
Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals have 10 points in their kitty with five wins & five losses. But they are still in contention for a playoffs berth. After Sunday’s fixture, Delhi Capitals are slated to play three matches against Rajasthan Royals on May 11, Punjab Kings on May 16, and Mumbai Indians on May 21.
This is the second time during the IPL 2022 that the Delhi Capitals have been forced to stay in isolation. Earlier in the season, six members of the Delhi Capitals team including physio Patrick Farhart, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, keeper-batter Tim Seifert, and three other non-playing members had tested positive for Coronavirus. With multiple members of the DC contingent returning with positive results, DC’s matches against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, which were originally scheduled to be played in Pune, were moved to Mumbai.
Currently, Delhi Capitals are placed at the fifth position on the Points table with 10 points in their kitty. They will have to win all their remaining clashes if they want to stay alive in the Playoffs race.
