RCB captain Virat Kohli heaps praise on Devdutt Padikkal who scored his maiden IPL century & thereby guided RCB to a thrilling victory over Rajasthan Royals in yesterday’s clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
“It was really an outstanding inning. Devdutt Padikkal batted really well for his first season in last year’s IPL. There was lots of talk going on about him not accelerating after reaching his 30s. He has put all that talks to rest. It was a good pitch to bat on, to be honest, & Padikkal being tall meant that bowlers struggled with their lengths”. T20 Cricket is all about partnerships”, Virat Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
When Kohli was asked about his own knock he said, “You can’t always go for big from the word go. When one guy is doing well, it’s important for me to ensure that I don’t lose my wicket on the other end. It can change on other days”.
“We spoke about it. Padikkal told me to finish it off & I told him to get to his century first. He said that many centuries will come, I said yeah you can say that after you get to the landmark. He deserved to get that century” added Kohli.
While chasing 178, RCB got across the line in just 16.3 overs to grab the top spot on the IPL 2021 Points Table. Virat Kohli also credited the bowlers for restricting RR to a below-average total. “We don’t have standout names in bowling but we have effective ones. We have depth in our bowling. They are professionals. We have taken most of the wickets in the death overs in this IPL season. And it’s something we take pride in. Dev’s innings was a great one but I would also like to credit the bowlers for setting it up. To the fans, I’d say don’t be overexcited. We are being professional & are moving in the right direction”, Virat Kohli said. RCB will next face CSK in their next clash on Sunday.
