Dhaka Premier League: Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib-Al-Hasan has been banned for four matches in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League 2021 after a harsh argument with an on-field umpire.

Shakib-Al-Hasan uprooted the stumps & threw them on the pitch after he argued on an LBW decision with the on-field umpire. The enraging incident took place during a match between Shakib’s Mohammedan Sporting Club vs Abahani Limited.

Shedding some light on the incident, during the match Shakib-Al-Hasan appealed for an LBW decision against his Bangladesh teammate Mushfiqur Rahim. But when the decision was overruled, Shakib expressed his anger by removing the stumps & throwing them on the pitch. He also had a fight with the opponent team’s coach Khaled Mahmud who is also the BCB Director.

However, after the incident Shakib apologized for his behavior through a Facebook post where he wrote, “I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens, unfortunately.”

The video of the controversial incident went viral on social media & former cricketers like Lisa Sthalekar and Virender Sehwag also reacted to it. The BCB is yet to confirm Shakib’s ban, but the Mohammedan Sporting Club has confirmed that Shakib-Al-Hasan has been banned for four matches. The on-field umpires were asked to submit a report on the incident while the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis took the final decision of the ban.

After the ban, Shakib will have to miss the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th round of the tournament, Dhaka Premier League. Shakib has scored over 10,000 runs & scalped 600 wickets across all formats of cricket. He is also considered as one of the finest spinner all-rounders in the World Cricket. Shakib has been in the headlines in the year 2019 after he was termed with a two-year ban for failing to report a corrupt approach.
