ENG vs NZ: ECB on Tuesday confirmed that England’s pacer Stuart Broad will be England’s Vice-Captain for the two-match test series against New Zealand starting from June 2.
“Our Vice-Captain for #ENGvNZ @StuartBroad8”, the Official handle of ECB tweeted on Tuesday. This will be the first instance for Stuart Broad as Vice-captain of the test series. He has prior experience of captaincy while leading England’s squad in ODIs & T20Is.
Last week, England’s Head Coach Chris Silverwood has included Sam Billings & Haseeb hameed for the upcoming test series against New Zealand. The call-ups came when Ben foakes was ruled out of the upcoming Test Series due to hamstring injury.
Ben Foakes who was selected in England’s Men’s Squad earlier in May was all set to play his first test in home conditions against New Zealand starting from June 2 at Lord’s Cricket Stadium. But unfortunately, he sustained an injury by slipping down in the dressing room after Surrey’s County Championship match against Middlesex at the Kia Oval.
“He will now be assessed and work closely on his rehabilitation with the Surrey medical team and is expected to be out of action for at least three months,” the ECB said in an official statement. Sam Billings who is an in-form player of England’s limited-overs squad & Haseeb Hameed who has been in good form during the 2021 County cricket have been included in England’s Test squad in place of Ben Foakes for two-match test series against New Zealand.
England’s Cricket team has suffered a major blow as its key players are currently out of action due to injuries. Jofra Archer has recently undergone elbow surgery & thus he will rest for few months. On the other hand, Ben Stokes is out of action after he broke his thumb during a match of the IPL 2021. Whereas IPL bound players are rested for the test series against New Zealand. Altogether, England will play without their star players in the two-match test series against New Zealand.
Whether England can win the test series without their star players or New Zealand will continue its winning form, is a wait & watch thing!
