ENG vs SL: The third & final ODI between England & Sri Lanka was called off due to rain in Bristol on Sunday. However, England had already won the ODI series by 2-0 but they missed the chance of registering a series sweep as the third ODI was washed out due to heavy rain.
“Rain has the final say. The third ODI has been called off & England clinches the series by 2-0. The teams will share the points from today’s game in the ICC Men’s @CricketWorldCupSuperLeague standings”, tweeted International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sent in to bat first in the third ODI, Sri Lanka displayed another disappointing performance as their innings were wrapped up for 166 in the 42nd over. Tom Curran starred with the ball by scalping 4 wickets for 35 runs. He dismantled Sri Lanka’s lower order to help the hosts restrict Lanka for a meager total of 166 runs. Except for Dasun Shanaka, no Sri Lankan batsmen could deliver against England’s fiery bowling attack. Dasun Shanaka scored an unbeaten 48 runs off 65 balls.
Sri Lanka was off track right from the beginning of their innings. They lost captain Kusul Perera in the third over itself & almost lost half of their batsmen within 15 overs after scoring just 63 runs. Noen of the Lankan batsmen could stitch a strong partnership as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Finally, England bundled out the visitors for a meager 166 runs in 42nd over & the match was called off due to heavy rain. However, even if the match was continued till the conclusion, England would have easily chased down the target in the end.
In the Sri Lanka tour of England, the Lankan squad has struggled to score runs in every single match. England has also won the T20I series by 3-0 after defeating Sri Lanka in all the three matches being played.
