England’s Captain Eoin Morgan will miss the final two ODIs of the ongoing series against India because of an injury he sustained during the first ODI match.
Sam Billings will be unavailable for the second ODI match of the ongoing series on Friday & the decision on his availability for Sunday’s match will be taken in due course of time. In Morgan’s absence, Jos Buttler will handle the captaincy of England’s squad & Liam Livingstone will make his ODI debut.
“Morgan will miss the remaining two ODIs after sustaining a split webbing between his thumb & index finger in the first ODI match held on Tuesday. The captain went through a fielding drill during training at the MCA Stadium ion Thursday & afterwards declared himself to play the remaining two ODIs”, ECB said in its Official Statement.
“Dawid Malan with entire tour has been drafted into the squad & is available for selection”, the statement added. “
I had the hand re-dressed before the start of the training today but quickly became visible that I am protecting the injury & getting into wrong positions to catch the ball”, Eoin Morgan said.
“It’s a freak injury & is extremely frustrating but there is nothing that I can do about it. Now one thing I can do is let the cut heal completely. I have every confidence in Jos Buttler & rest of the squad coping without me”, Morgan added. The second ODI between India & England will be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Friday.
