Harbhajan Singh recollected the past & talked about the historic Gavaskar Trophy in 2001 on Sunday.

Coming into the team as a replacement for Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh presented the best performance of his career by grabbing 32 wickets in the Gavaskar Trophy in 2001. His performance also helped him to earn the Man of the Series Award.

Speaking about the series, Ponting said, “After that when the 2001 series happened it felt like he was not playing the ball but getting out just by watching my face. He was not focusing on the ball at all, if he was focusing on the ball I don’t think anyone would get out so many times and that too so easily,” the Indian spinner said in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

Overall harbhajan Singh has grabbed Ricky Ponting’s Wicket almost 10 times in his career. He picked a total of 95 wickets in 18 tests played against Australia. Harbhajan’s performance in the series turned out to be the turning point of his career as Bhajji became a prominent member of the Indian team. Due to his spectacular performance, Harbhajan Singh also becomes the greatest off-spinner in the history of Indian Cricket.

In his stupendous career, Harbhajan Singh has picked 417 wickets in 103 Tests & 269 wickets in 236 ODI matches.
