In response to Punjab’s blistering 179 runs target RCB could manage to score just 145/8 thanks to the restricted bowling performances from debutant Harpreet Brar & Ravi Bishnoi.
Harpreet Brar was playing his maiden IPL match & right in his first match he created some new records. Harpreet starred with both ball & bat by displaying an all-rounder performance in today’s clash. Brar took three crucial catches along with three key wickets & scored 25 runs off 17 balls to glide PBKS to a spell-bounding victory. Harpreet picked three crucial wickets of RCB’s big guns such as Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell & AB De Villiers after starring with the bat.
Harpreet removed the big guns of RCB to change the momentum of the game in PBKS’s favor!
Chasing a competitive total of 180 runs, RCB got off to a bad start as their star opener Devdutt Padikkal was sent back to the pavilion by Riley Meredith right in the third over. However, Captain Kohli & Rajat Patidar continued scoring at a brisk rate & took RCB to 62 runs. Soon their blooming partnership was ended by Harpreet who dismissed both Kohli & Maxwell on consecutive balls to reduce RCB to 62/3.
RCB hopes of winning were put to rest when Harpreet dismissed their star batsman AB De Villiers in the 13th over. RCB got reduced from 62/1 to 69/4 & continued losing wickets in the death overs of their innings. The trio of Rajat, Shahbaz & Daniel all got out one after another within seven balls as RCB was reduced to 96/7. However, Kyle Jamieson & Harshal Patel came to their rescue as they took RCB over 140 runs mark, but it was of no use as RCB finally lost the match by 34 runs.
Gayle, Brar & Rahul laid the foundation of PBKS victory by putting on board a Superlative target of 179 runs!
Sent to bat first, Punjab Kings also had a slow start but things got improved as Chris Gayle came to bat at number three & smashed five fours in the sixth over to take his team to 49-1 at the end of the powerplay. There was no stopping for Gayle as he continued his onslaught with the bat & took PBKS to 90/1 at the end of the 10th over. However, Daniel Sams came & removed Gayle while Jamieson dismissed Nicholas Pooran in the 12th over to reduce the acceleration of PBKS innings.
PBKS middle order couldn’t deliver much as Shahrukh khan was bowled for a duck reducing PBKS to 118/5. But KL Rahul & debutant Harpreet Brar took RCB bowlers on a ride & easily reached the 150 runs mark at the end of 18 overs. In the final over the duo scored massive 22 runs to take their side to a competitive target of 179 runs.
