The International Cricket Council on Monday announced the August nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Awards. The nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Awards for August are India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, & Joe Root England while the nominees for the Women’s Player of the Month award for August are Thailand’s Nattaya Boochatham, Gaby lewis & Eimer Richardson from Ireland’s team.
Let’s have a glimpse at the recent accomplishments of the Nominees of the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August:
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah played three tests against England as a part of the ongoing ICC WTC series last month where he scalped nine wickets in the first test & delivered exceptionally well with the bat in his match-winning partnership of an unbeaten 89 with Mohammed Shami which kept England waiting for a breakthrough & helped India to seal a victory in the second test at the Lords.
Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan)
Shaheen Afridi has played two tests against West Indies last month. He displayed a stellar performance with the ball in both the tests & registered the best bowling figures by a Paksitan pacer since 2006. In the first match against West Indies, Shaheen scalped eight wickets before completing his ten-wicket haul to guide Pakistan to a series leveling 109 run win over West Indies in the second test. Shaheen Afridi also became the fourth-youngest pacer from Pakistan to achieve this feat which features his compatriots, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis & Mohammad Zahid.
Joe Root (England)
England Captain Joe Root played three tests against India during the month of August when he scored centuries in each test & regained the number one spot in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Joe Root’s stunning form in the ongoing ICC WTC series against India has helped Root to reclaim the top spot in the batsmen list almost after six years.

Nattaya Boochatham (Thailand)
Crucial contributions with bat & ball in the series against Zimbabwe last month helped Nattaya Boochatham reach a career bets position across the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings for batters, bowlers, & all-rounders last month. Boochatham played an important role in Thailand’s 2-1 triumph over Zimbabwe, winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award in both their victories.
Gaby Lewis (Ireland)
Gaby Lewis becomes the first Ireland woman to register a ton in T20I cricket as Ireland sealed a 164 run win over Germany in the opening match of the Europe Qualifiers of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Lewis struck 11 fours & three sixes in a remarkable 60 ball innings of 105.
Eimear Richardson (Ireland)
Eimear Richardson was awarded as the ‘Player of the Tournament in Europe Qualifiers of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for her heroics with bat & ball. In the four T20Is which she palyed against Germany, Scotland, France & Netherlands, Richardson scalped seven wickets at an economy rate of 4.19 & scored a total of 76 runs.
The ‘Player of the month’ awards was started earlier this year to recognize & reward the best international performances in both men & women cricketers across all formats of Cricket. The shortlisted players of both men’s & women’s categories will be voted by an Independent International Cricket Council (ICC) Voting Academy and fans across the globe & the nominee receiving the highest number of votes in both men’s & women’s categories will receive the ICC player of the month award for the month of August.
