England batsmen Ollie Pope & Jonny Bairstow put up 77 runs to bring England back into the game in the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021 at the Kennington Oval Cricket ground on Friday.
With Indian bowlers dominating day one of the fourth Test, it was important for the hosts to bounce back & perform well with the bat in the opening session of day two. Indian bowlers were heading strong with Umesh Yadav scalping crucial wickets of Craig Overton & Dawid Mallan. However the duo of Ollie Pope 38* & Jonny Bairstow 34* launched a brilliant counter-attack during the 2nd hour of the morning session to bring England back into the game.
At lunch, England’s score read 139/5, trailing by 52 runs with five wickets in their hands. Both the batsmen mixed caution with aggression to ensure hosts didn’t lose a single wicket while heading into lunch. Earlier in the first hour of the day, two Umesh Yadav scalped crucial wickets of Craig Overton & Dawid Mallan to keep hosts at bay. The morning session of day two didn’t start well for England as they lost two quick wickets before the lunch break.
Jasprit Bumrah too bowled well but he failed to add to his two wickets count in the morning session. It was Umesh who added two more wickets to his one prized wicket of Joe Root which he had scalped in the evening session of day one of the IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021. Meanwhile, the drama of ‘Jarvo 69’ continued in the fourth test as he again invaded the pitch on the second day of the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021 at the Kennington Oval.
The incident occurred during the 34th over of England’s innings which was being bowled by Umesh Yadav & thus the match was halted for five minutes. Jarvo’s pitch invasion has now become a regular pattern in the ongoing test series. Earlier English county Yorkshire had confirmed that the pitch invader ‘Jarvo 69’ has been banned for life from entering into Headingley stadium.
Jarvo had first invaded the pitch during India vs England Lord’s Test. He walked on the field to join the Indian team after lunch at the lord’s Ground. However, he was quickly removed from the field by the security personnel. His ‘pitch invasion’ didn’t stop here as he again invaded the pitch on the third day of the third test match. The incident happened after India’s opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed. Jarvis walked in padded up as a batsman & tried to take a strike before the security personnel rushed in & took him off the field. Owing to Jarvo’s breach, English County Yorkshire confirmed that pitch invader ‘Jarvo 69’ has been banned for life from entering the stadium.
