England is all set to lock horns with India in the IND vs ENG 4th test 2021 of the Pataudi Trophy on September 2 at the Kennington Oval in London. After suffering a humiliating defeat in the lord’s test, the hosts bounced back at Headingley to record a stunning victory by an innings & 76 runs.
The inclusion of Dawid Malan at No.3 & the promotion of Haseeb Hammed to the top order did wonder for England’s batting unit. During IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2021, India won the toss & choose to bat first. However, India’s decision didn’t work well for them, as Indian batters couldn’t step up & perform well in front of England’s accurate pace attack & were bundled out for 78 runs in the first innings. In response, England comfortably cruised to 120/0 at the end of Day 1.
England’s domination continued on Day 2 with their top three batsmen registering half-centuries & captain Joe Root registering his gleaming third century of the ongoing series. England finished Day 2 on a high 423/8 taking a 345 runs lead. India bowled them out for 432 runs but a massive lead of 345 runs proved too much to overhaul.
KL Rahul fell prey to England’s new-ball attack, but Pujara & Rohit led the fightback for India. However, after Rohit’s dismissal, Kohli & Pujara joined hands to take India to 215/2 at stumps. However, on Day 4, England didn’t let India make a remarkable comeback as England’s pacers bowled out India for 278 runs.
Ollie Robinson was awarded as the ‘Player of the match’ for his heroics with the ball. He scalped two wickets in the first innings & a five-wicket haul in the second innings to help hosts dominate India in the third test match. James Anderson also bowled a phenomenal opening spell that shattered India in their first innings. England’s astounding victory in the third test will give them a lot of confidence ahead of the fourth Test at the Oval cricket ground. On the other hand, India will try to learn lessons from its previous defeat & will try to return back to winning terms in the fourth test.
Meanwhile, Chris Woakes has fully recovered from his injury & is named in Engalnd’s squad for the IND vs ENG 4th Test 2021 while Sam Billings has been added to the squad as a cover. Mark Wood has also recovered from his injury & will be in contention for a spot in the Playing XI. Jos Buttler will miss the fourth test as he is on paternity leave & Chris Silverwood confirmed that Jonny Bairstow will do the wicket-keeping duties in place of Buttler. In the absence of regular vice-captain Jos Buttler, England has named Moeen Ali as the vice-captain of the team for the fourth test.
On the other hand, India has included Prasidh Krishna in the Playing XI for the fourth test while Ravindra Jadeja is completely fit & retains his place in the Playing XI. With the series level at 1-1, we can witness a crackling contest at the Kennington Oval.
Date: September 2-6, 2021 (Thursday-Monday).
Time: 11:00 AM (Local/ BST), 03:30 PM (IST), and 10:00 AM (GMT).
Venue: Kennington Oval, London.
Rain could play a spoilsport on days four & five of the fourth test. The forecast for other days is good with minimal chances of rain. The average temperature should be around 19 degrees Celsius across the five days.
The wicket at the Kennington Oval is ideal for both batters & ballers. The wicket should assist the batters in the first innings with some assistance for the pacers. As the match goes on, the pitch could turn slow & spinners could come into the forefront. Overall, we can expect another balanced contest between bat and ball in the fourth test.
Chris Woakes will walk into England’s Playing XI as he has fully recovered from his injury. Meanwhile, Mark wood is also back to full fitness & could make it to the Playing XI. With Jos Buttler on paternity leave, Jonny Bairstow will do keep wicket-keeping duties. Either Ollie Pope or Daniel Lawrence could take Buttler’s place in the team. England’s batting looked solid in the third Test, and they’ll look to repeat the same once more.
Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed, Dawid Malan, Joe Root (C), Jonny Bairstow(WK), Ollie Pope/ Daniel Lawrence, Moeen Ali, Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes/ Sam Curran, Craig Overton/ Mark Wood, and James Anderson.
After struggling a lot in the third test, India has made certain changes to their Playing XI. Reserve bowler Prasidh Krishna receives his maiden test call-up ahead of the fourth test. However, there is a lot of discussions over the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin in the Playing XI & with pitch conditions assisting spinners we could see him in the Playing XI for the fourth test.
Ishant’s form was not so impressive in the third test & with both Ashwin and Shardul Thakur fit, you’d imagine that one of them would take his place. Rishabh pant & Ajinkya Rahane will try to step up & deliver in the fourth test.
KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Prasidh Krishna, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin/ Ishant Sharma/Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
It looks like England will have an edge over India after registering a win in the third test but we can expect the Indian team to bounce back after facing a defeat in the third test. Both the teams looks evenly matched in terms of their line-ups & there are no chances of mistakes from either of these teams. With the possibility of losing game time due to rain, a draw is the most likely outcome.
Prediction: Match to be drawn.
