IND vs ENG: The Indian team in England dealt with another injury blow on Thursday as after Avesh khan & Shubman Gill, all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the five-match test series due to a finger injury.
According to the reports, Washington Sundar has fractured a finger after being hit by Mohammed Siraj’s delivery on the second day of the first-class match between India & County XI. “Yes washy fractured finger just like Avesh Khan who had a thumb dislocation. Both are out of the tets series & will go back home”, a senior BCCI official told media.
“He will also take at least five weeks to start bowling and so no point keeping them here,” the source said. The short ball from Siraj that accounted for Washington hit his fingers harder than expected. Sundar was in extreme pain after returning to the pavilion. Though Washington & Avesh are not part of a regular team, they are integral net bowlers. Sundar with his superior batting abilities would have been included in the playing XI during some point of the series.
“It is sheer irony that both Avesh and Washington played for opposition and got hurt. But this is sport and injuries are part and parcel of life,” the source added.
The replacements for Avesh Khan & Washington Sundar will soon be named & it will be quite interesting to see if Navdeep Saini or Bhuvneshwra Kumar replaces Avesh Khan & join the team after the conclusion of the ongoing Sri Lanka tour. Krishnappa Gowtham could be included in the Indian team as Washington’s replacement.
Meanwhile, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has joined the Indian team on Thursday after recovering from COVID-19. Pant was slated to undergo COVID-19 & cardiac tests on Monday as he has completed his mandatory 10 days of isolation as per the UK guidelines. On Thursday the BCCI tweeted a photo of Rishabh Pant & wrote, “Hello, @RishabhPant17 great to have you back #TeamIndia”. Team India will lock horns with England in the five-match test series starting from 4th August at Nottinghamshire.
