The all-round team of India Legends made their way to the finals of the Road Safety World Series T20 league after defeating West Indies Legends by 13 runs at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Raipur on Wednesday evening.
The legendary Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar guides India legends to the Finals by hitting a spectacular half century which came after Virender Sehwag’s cameo & before Yuvraj Singh’s six hitting stint. Chasing the target of 219 to win the West Indies Legends were restricted to 206 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Needing 24 runs in 12 balls India legend pacers R Vinay Kumar & Irfan Pathan bowled the overs brilliantly to register glorious victory for India Legends which was going in the visitor’s way.
Vinay Kumar picked two wickets of Brian Lara & Tino Best at a crucial point of the match in the 18th over which brought India Legends back into the game. Dwayne Smith (63) and Narsingh Deonarine’s (59 not out) half-centuries got wasted as West Indies Legends were knocked out of the tournament due to stupendous efforts of India Legends.
Sachin Tendulkar’s half century & Yuvraj Singh’s unbeaten 49 off 20 balls which comprised of six sixes & a four help India Legends to put the target of 218 for three in allotted 20 overs. Other than Tendulkar & Yuvraj’s swashbuckling knocks, Sehwag (35), Yusuf Pathan (37) & Mohammed Kaif (27) also contributed with the bat. India Legends started with the attacking mode with Sehwag hitting the first ball bowled by Spinner Sulieman Benn through the covers. There was no stopping for Sehwag who was in attacking mode while Tendulkar took his time to settle & play his game.
Sehwag & Tendulkar together stitched an outstanding half century partnership for the first wicket down as Sehwag gave a return catch to seamer Tino Best. Later Tendulkar scored another half century & he also stitched a valuable 53 runs partnership with Kaif before Kaif was dismissed by Ryan Austin. On the way to his century Tendulkar got caught at deep by Kirk Edwards. Then came Yuvraj & Yusuf who successfully destroyed West Indies bowling attack in the death overs by hitting some maximums.
Yuvraj smashed six sixes in the last two overs. In the 19th over Yuvraj hit leggie Mahendra Nagamootoo for four sixes & the next two sixes came in the last over of Sulieman Benn. Despite of hitting six sixes, Yuvraj was left stranded at 49 not out as India Legends comfortably scored 218 for 3 in 20 overs.
