India managed to save their wickets by the end of Day 2 & reached a decent total of 96 at stumps. Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten by scoring nine & five runs as India finished Day 2 on 96/2 trailing hosts first innings total of 338 by 242 runs.
Australia managed to restrict Pujara & Rahane to score runs since the two batsmen came together on field. Shubman Gill scored his maiden test half-century but departed on the very next ball off Pat Cummins. He & Rohit Sharma added 70 runs for first wicket before Hazlewood broke their solid partnership.
Earlier Jadeja did fantastic bowling & finished with 4/62 by affecting the run out of Steve Smith as hosts were all out for 338 runs in their first innings. Steve Smith emerged as the star batsman for Australia by scoring his 27th test century but India too managed to keep the game under control by grabbing eight wickets within two sessions. Jadeja scalped his fourth wicket by dismissing Lyon for a duck. Navdeep Saini also scalped two wickets. Steve Smith scored his century off 201 balls. After Australia resumed their innings post lunch, India’s star bowler Bumrah dismissed Tim Paine with a cracker delivery whereas Jadeja dismissed Pat Cummins for a Yorker. Jadeja provided India with first breakthrough by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne for 91 runs & then struck again to remove Matthew Wade after the rain interval. Smith and Labuschagne had given Australia a solid start before the first rain break.
