Day 2 came to an end & India is 96/2 in reply to Australia’s 338 at stumps, a trail by 242 runs. India started their innings on high note with opening batsmen Gill & Rohit taking the charge & playing some fabulous shots. However their solid partnership was broken by Australia who managed to send Rohit back to pavilion for 26 runs. Shubman Gill stood out & managed to score his maiden test fifty. In the final session Australia removed India’s openers & then came Pujara & Rahane who took the charge & rebuilt India’s innings.
Australia ended their innings at spectacular 338 runs thanks to the brilliant century by Steve Smith supported by Marnus Labuschagne who scored spectacular 91 runs. The solid partnership between Smith & Labuschagne helped Australia to score a mammoth target of 338 runs for the visitors to chase. The visitors need to show heroics with bat just as they displayed a perfect bowling attack on Day 2 of the 3rd Test Match. Earlier Australia ended the Day 1 of the Sydney Test on 166/2. A total of 55 overs were bowled on day 1 with rain resulting in stoppage of play for more than three hours.
Earlier India got their first breakthrough with Mohammed Siraj dismissing Opener David Warner for just 5 runs & the hosts were reduced to 21 for 1 at lunch break. Sudden drizzle at the Sydney Cricket Ground forced the players to go off the field in 8th over of the third test. Australia had won toss & opted to bat first in the third test match against India. Visitors welcomed their favorite player Rohit Sharma in their test squad whereas Young Navdeep Saini made his debut in place of Mohammed Shami. Australia on the other hand have David Warner & Will Puvocski as opening pair with both regaining fitness and playing.
