Ben Stokes outstanding 99 runs & Jonny Bairstow’s 124 runs off 112 balls helped England to seal a series-levelling win against India in the 2nd ODI at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Chasing a Mammoth target of 337 runs, England win the 2nd ODI with 39 balls to spare and levelled the three-match ODI series at 1-1. It was England’s batsmen who displayed blistering show with the bat. The decider match of the ODI series will be played on Sunday.
The foundation of England’s victory was laid by the openers Jason Roy & Bairstow by stitching a 100 plus partnership for the first wicket down. But soon their blooming partnership was ended by Rohit Sharma in the 17th over as Jason Roy got run out after scoring a quality 55 runs knock. However, Ben Stokes joined Bairstow to steady England’s Innings. The duo stitched a spectacular 175 runs knock for the second wicket & which set the momentum of the game in the favor of visitors. It was definitely a carnage by two of England’s finest batsmen.
However, Ben Stokes missed his well-deserved by getting out on 99 runs scored off just 52 balls. Ben Stokes innings of 99 runs comprised of 10 sixes. Rishabh Pant caught Stokes off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s delivery in the 36th over. However, it was already late for India as England were just 52 runs away from chasing the target with eight wickets still in their hands.
In the very next over, Prasidh Krishna Prasidh scalped two wickets as he first removed Bairstow for 124 runs & then dismissed Captain Jos Buttler for a three-ball duck. But the quick fall of three wickets didn’t affect the visitor’s chase of the target as they have already turned the game in their favour. Dawid Malan & Debutant Liam Livingstone stitched an unbeaten 50 runs partnership to guide England to the series-levelling win. Livingstone scored 27 runs while Malan remained unbeaten on 16 runs.
Earlier India finished on a huge total of 336/6 from 50 overs against England. KL Rahul scored his fifth ODI century while Virat Kohli & Rishabh Pant peeled off impressive half-centuries. The decider ODI match will be played on Sunday, 28th November at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
