After a thrilling match which went into a Super Over, RCB was successful to register a dramatic Victory against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020 at the Dubai International Stadium.
The clash which was termed as a Rohit Sharma vs Virat Kohli clash, had fans waiting until the last minute to find out which team will turn out to be victorious. Before the match landed in Super Over, the game looked in favor of RCB but as it is said that ‘game can change at any moment’, this saying turned true for Mumbai Indians with stupendous batting by Ishan Kishan & Kieron Pollard who registered 159 runs in partnership. Mumbai Indians won the toss & elected to bowl.
For RCB, Devdutt Padikkal scored a half century while AB De Villiers & Shivam Dube ensured a 201 runs target for Mumbai Indians to achieve. Meanwhile Washington Sundar proved to be crucial for Kohli’s side. After being sent to bat first, Padikkal & Aaron finch gave RCB a good start where Aaron scored 52 runs off 35 balls. Padikkal also hit seven boundaries which consisted of four fours & two sixes & registered 54 runs off 40 balls. Meanwhile Finch also hit seven fours & a six. The duo’s partnership proved to be crucial to RCB with Trent Boult taking some crucial wickets. RCB captain Kohli continued his poor run form in the ongoing IPL leaving the field very early after being caught by Rohit Sharma off Rahul Chahar. Kohli was able to score just three runs for 11 balls.
AB De Villiers & Shivam Dube added the last finishing touches to RCB’s total with 55 runs & 27 runs respectively. Both continue their partnership till the end helping RCB to finish at a score of 201/3 setting a 202 run target. Mumbai faced a slow start losing crucial wickets of of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock. These crucial wickets were taken by Washington Sundar, Isuru Udana and Yuzvendra Chahal respectively.
It was only after the arrival of Kishan that Mumbai Indians chase started in full swing. Hardik Pandya got dismissed by Adam Zampa after scoring 15 runs & then Pollard came to build a stable partnership with Kishan.
Kishan scored 99 runs off 58 deliveries getting back to the pavilion in the second last ball of the 20th over, then Pollard hit a six in the last ball which took the game to a super over as Mumbai Indians also finished the game at 201/5.
Super Over was truly a treat for cricket fans as RCB star bowler Navdeep Saini’s brilliant delivery grabbed Pollard’s wicket & restricted Mumbai Indians to just 7 runs. However RCB nailed the Super Over by AB De Villiers hitting a four in the fourth delivery against Jasprit Bumrah. In the last delivery Kohli hit a four to register victory for his team. RCB finished the Super Over at 11 runs with no defeat. Mumbai Indians will next face KXIP on October 1 while RCB will face Rajasthan Royals on October 3.
