Sanju Samson’s furious hundred went in vain as PBKS Arshdeep Singh caught him on the last ball to help PBKS register a thrilling victory over Rajasthan Royals in yesterday’s match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Sanju Samson’s firing knock was the only highlight of RR’s Innings!
Punjab Kings were in their best form as they registered a mammoth total of 221 runs in 20 overs. KL Rahul’s firing knock along with Deepak Hooda’s hostile hitting helped PBKS to bring on board a competitive total of 221 runs. In response to PBKS power-pack total, Rajasthan Royals could score 217 runs & fell short of just 5 runs to chase the target & clinch glorious victory. For Rajasthan Royals, it was a one-man show as Sanju Samson’s blistering 119 runs knock kept RR alive in the chase of 222 runs. Early dismissal of openers had left RR reeling right at the beginning of their innings. However, Jos Buttler & Samson together brought RR back in the innings before Jos Buttler got dismissed in the eighth over.
But Jos Buttler’s dismissal didn’t affect Samson’s determination as he continued his onslaught with the bat. Samson & Riyan Parag kept playing firing knock by smashing 13 & 20 runs in the 15th & 16th over. Samson smashed Richardson’s bowling by scoring 19 runs in the 18th over & reduced the runs required to 21 off two overs. Samson’s blistering knock of 119 runs off 63 balls is the highest by any captain on his first game in the IPL history. Samson just like a warrior kept fighting against the PBKS bowling attack but didn’t able to get the job done for RR as the Punjab Kings register victory on the last ball.
Buttler-Samson 45 Runs Stand revived RR’s dead Innings!
Sanju Samson also refused a single run to remain at the strike when RR needed five runs off 2 balls. Sanju as a Captain took the responsibility of taking his team home however got caught at the last ball off Arshdeep’s bowling. Samson’s 119 runs off 63 balls was the only highlight of the Rajasthan Royals innings. This man single-handedly produced a stupendous knock which is not less than a victory for RR
Earlier chasing 222, RR’s opener Ben Stokes went early at 0. Arshdep was quick to remove Manan Vohra for just 12 runs leaving RR reeling at 25 for 2. Then came Samson & Jos Buttler who together steadied RR’s innings by stitching q quick-fire 45 runs stand. However, Debutant Jhye Richardson held RR’s nerves by removing Buttler from the crease.
But all these drawbacks couldn’t affect Samson’s will as he kept hitting brilliant shots to keep RR alive in the chase despite losing partners on the other end at regular intervals. Samson hammered Richardson for two boundaries & a massive six in the 18th over & scored 19 runs to take his team near a thrilling victory.
KL Rahul & Deepak Hooda guided Punjab Kings over 200 runs mark!
For Punjab Kings, KL Rahul smashed 7 fours & 5 sixes while Deepak Hodda registered 6 sixes & 4 boundaries to take Punjab beyond 200 runs mark. Punjab Kings lost their opener, Mayank Agarwal, early at 14 runs who lost his wicket on debutant Chetan Sakariya’s delivery. KL Rahul & Deepak Hooda together stitched a 105 runs stand to help Punjab register a massive total of 222 runs.
Yesterday’s match was not less than a thriller movie for the fans sitting in front of their Television sets. Sanju Samson though couldn’t take his team home but was successful in stealing the hearts of his fans with his blistering 119 runs knock!
